Imphal, July 28 2020:
Many organisations have strongly opposed the Government's decision to allow resumption of issuance of ILP pass amid COVID-19 crisis in the State.
Co-Ordinating Body, Khurai, in a statement, said that the resumption of issuance of the ILP pass after a brief suspension earlier in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, is unacceptable and untimely.
It will be dangerous to welcome more non-locals at the when the State is reeling under immense pressure due to local transmissions of COVID-19 and rise in number of positive cases among people who have no travel history, it said while urging the State Government to immediately withdraw the order and hold the issuance of ILP pass for the time being.
The State is facing a hard time in treating State returnees alone and it will be unwise to add unnecessary load by allowing entry of more non-locals, remarked the body while adding that the Government should not allow entry of non-locals, including security personnel until the local cases are fully controlled.
Khangabok bodies namely, United Social Development and Educational Organisation, Irawat Ningshing Thouram Committee, Social Upliftment Committee, All Khangabok Labour's Welfare Union and The Khangabok Area Building and Other Construction Workers' Union also sent out a joint statement condemning the order issued by Special Secretary Home on July 21 to allow resumption of ILP pass issuance.
The bodies also asked what compelled the State Government to allow entry of non-locals in the State during such a critical juncture.
It will make the situation in the State more grim, said the bodies while urging the Government to stop the issuance immediately.
The Western Sporting Club also requested the State Government to reconsider the situation and but a ban on entry of non locals till the situation subsides.
