Imphal, February 28 2016:
Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS), New Delhi has demanded Deputy CM
Gaikhangam, who also holds the charge of the Home portfolio, to
take the moral responsibility and resign over the alleged acting on
the behest of one community.
In a statement, DAMMS said that the Dy CM on earlier
occasion clarified on the floor of Assembly that the police
personnel had not manhandled, arrested or assaulted the Naga
Student Federation (NSF) leaders.
Then, why the home de-
partment suspend those commandos on the following days? Is
it his communal politics?, it asked.
It urged CM Okram Ibobi to take immediate action against
the "communal leader" and revoke the suspension of five
Manipur Police personnel.
"It is his vote bank politics which made 5 commandos the
scapegoat, though they have done nothing against the normal
duty.
If such trend of suspending the Manipur Police for the
normal frisking continues, then, what will happen to the law
and order situation of the State?," it asked.
No such action was taken against Manipur Police comman-
dos when they were abducting, assaulting and looting a
Muslim businessman of Rs 6 lakh last October at the heart of
Imphal City, it pointed out.
The Government should clarify its stand on the issue at the
earliest or else the Police Department should stop all frisking
and checking exercises in the State, DAMMS statement said.
