13 day micro enterprises development prog kick starts

The inaugural function of the 13 day Micro Entrepreneurs Development Programme (MEDP) for SHGs organized by ACCORDS under the aegis of NABARD was held today at NERCORMP/Senapati Conference Hall with Kuba Mathias, Project Manager, i/c.NERCORMP as chief guest, Dr Bonny Bernard a veterinarian, Irengbam Premjoy, Assistant Project Manager, NABARD, Senapati branch and Heni Ahrai, advocate as special guests.
Albert ZM CEO of ZICORD, a prominent NGO of Manipur was the chief resource person.
The programme was attended by representatives of 30 active SHGs from five blocks namely Mao Songsong, Tadubi, Willong, Paomata and Phaibung.
MS Jerome, Managing Director, ACCORDS welcomed the dignitaries, participants and highlighted the course contents and its importance in the context of rural/hill people particularly women SHGs and marginal farmers for taking up viable economic activities and bring sustainable livelihood while promoting environmental protection and mitigating the challenges of climate change.
Kuba Mathias, speaking at the occasion, lauded the initiatives of ACCORDS and the support services given by NABARD towards empowerment of the community especially in skill development of the women and marginal farmers.
The sustainability approach of ACCORDS microfinance and the SHG federations are very encouraging and should be scaled up, he added.
Kuma further elaborated on Government recognition of the contributions of SHGs towards building a strong society.
He exhorted the women to be agents of change and role models in development.
Women as home makers and care takers of children must be fully aware of climate change and play a pro-active role in bringing about mental shift towards creating sustainable development in the village.
Irengbam Premjoy also emphasized on building skills of women for taking up alternative livelihood options to enhance income and economy.
He stressed on the need to establish linkages of SHGs with banks, financial institutes and other agencies of development.
Creating a success story is very important in winning the confidence and support of funding authorities, he observed.
