125th birth anniversary of Naoriya Phullo observed

The 125th birth anniversary of Laininghal Naoriya Phullo was observed by Meetei Erol Enat Loinasinlon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) at its head-office here today.
The observance was attended by Yumnam Suren as Chief Guest and President of MEELAL Sadokpam Tomba Mangang as functional President.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-President of MEELAL Moirangthem Naokhomba Meetei said that Naoriya Phullo had strived to revive the language, script and religion of the Meeteis by setting up Malem Apokpa Marup in 1930 .
The induction of Meetei Mayek into the curriculum of schools and opening of a separate language directorate are results of the movement started by Naoriya Phullo.
He was a learned man who had written numerous books on pure Meeteilon, he asserted.
The 125th Birth Anniversary of Naoriya Phulo was also celebrated under the aegis of Laininghan Naoriya Phulo at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here today.
As a part of the celebration, prizes were distributed to the position holders of the 3rd State Level Recitation Competition held on August 26.The competition was based on the poems written by Naoriya Phulo.
Animaka Heirangkhongjam of Nirmalabas High School, Guneshwari Nongmaithem of Sanatombi Oriental English School, Kumbi and Linthoingambi Moirangthem of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary, Porompat who bagged the first, the second and the third position were awarded cash prizes of Rs 3000, 2500 and 2000 respectively along citations.
The function was graced by Dr H Nabachandra, Chairman of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur as Chief Guest.
Dr K Shusila, Deputy Director of Manipur State Archives; Prof N Joykumar of Department of History, Manipur University; former Minister RV Mingthing and Th Iboyaima, President of Irabot Foundation, Imphal were also present on the occasion as presidium members.
