Imphal, May 27 2016 :
MLA Thamarjit Karam today said that he was put in the wrong light by some vested interest groups in connection with the breaching of Imphal river bank at Kyamgei Muslim Oinam Loukon few days back and the aftermath.
Speaking to reporters today at his residence located at Kyamgei, MLA Thamarjit said that no locals of the area had shown cooperation when he asked them to come out for taking up preventive measure even after he told them that excavator and dipper would be provided for the works by him in the morning of May 22 .
Actually the river bank did not breach, but water overflowed in 20-30 ft long stretch of the river bank initially, he said.
The locals even did not cooperate when he urged them to come out even after offering them logistic and material supports in the evening to contain the situation, Thamarjit said.
Meanwhile, with the efforts of the locals, breaching of the river bank was prevented at Kyamgei and Arapti, the MLA said.
The MLA also said that the whereabouts of some materials provided by IFC Department for tackling the grim situation is unknown.
He said that the department concerned is taking up step to file an FIR in this regard.
Even after the debacle, the MLA personally ensured that relief materials are provided to the affected victims.
It is very unfortunate that some vested individuals and organisations accused him of doing nothing to help the victims, he said while adding that he is still ready to offer any help or assistance to the victims.
Thamarjit also dismissed the allegation that the breaching of the river bank was due to preparations for construction of a bridge between Kyamgei Shantipur and Arapti as baseless and unfounded.
He said the proposed construction work does not disturb the flow of the water in the river.
He urged all concerned not to spread canards through media with the intention to malign his image.
