BJP-led NDA has betrayed the country: Congress

Imphal, May 26 2018: Apart from organising a protest demonstration as a part of Vishwasghat Divas claiming that the BJP led NDA Government has betrayed the trust and hope of the people of the country, Opposition Congress party has demanded the BJP to stop making false and empty promises to the people immediately.

In accordance to the directions of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a sit-in protest in front of Congress Bhavan here today.

MPCC president TN Haokip, ex-CM O Ibobi Singh and former Deputy CM Gaikhangam as well as a large number of Congress workers took part in the protest.

Youth Congress also took out rallies along major roads of Imphal City protesting against the BJP Government.

Later, speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan, Okram Ibobi claimed that the people have now witnessed the truth behind the numerous claims and false promises made by the BJP before and after the election.

Now the people from many directions are demanding the BJP led NDA Government in the Centre as well as the BJP led coalition Government in the State to stop making false and empty promises and propaganda.

He claimed that Prime Minister Narehdra Modi has not been able to keep his promise of ensuring MSP profits for the farmers.

Now the loan system for farmers is becoming similar to that of private companies, Ibobi claimed and added that the BJP, which made tall claims of providing Rs 15 crore in compensation to the farmers during the time of the UPA Government, has been able to provide no more than Rs 6 crore till date.

Ibobi further continued that agriculture growth which was around 4.2 percent during the UPA Government, has decreased to 1.7 percent today.

Although tall promises were made to provide jobs to 2 crore youths per year, the NDA Government has not been able to provide jobs to more than 8 lakhs youth till date.

The NDA Government has failed in every sector and they are only good at making false and empty assurances, Ibobi said.

Pointing out that GST was introduced during the time of the UPA Government, the ex-CM stated that the BJP had opposed the idea back then.

But now, the hasty implementation of GST by the NDA Government has killed off many small industries.

On the other hand, former Dy CM, Gaikhangam said that completion of four years by the NDA Government has not brought any kind of development but only false assurances.

The BJP led Government has not achieved anything.

It has failed to fulfil the promises it made during the 2014 Parliamentary election to eradicate corruption, bring back black money to the country and reduce the price of goods and essential commodities, he added.

Claiming that the BJP Government has nothing to show as its achievement, Gaikhangam said that the BJP Government, instead of transforming its words into action, is busy taking 'actions' against the people.

It would be right for the anti-people and the anti-development Government to be eliminated at the earliest, he added.

On the other hand, TN Haokip informed the media persons that the protest was organised against the empty promises of the BJP Government and to show that the people is against such antics.
