Imphal, August 25 2011:
Officials of State Bank of India, Paona Bazar branch today handed over three steel almirahs to Kongpal Morning Junior High School.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Manager of the branch, S Dey Sikhbar said presentation of the almirahs for usage by both the teaching staff members and students to store books is part of the SBI's endeavour to promote education in the State and the same will continue in the coming weeks.
He also highlighted that last year computer sets were provided to various schools.
Affirming that education is one of the thrust areas for the Bank under its corporate social responsibility programme, Dey said many Government schools lack proper infrastructure.
In order to address this issue to a limited extent and to make a visible impact with regard to educational infrastructure it has been decided by the competent authority that each branch of the SBI identify a school in order to provide 10 ceiling fans ahead of the teachers' day celebration.
In case the identified school is unable to absorb the total fan provision, the branch concerned may chose one more school to distribute the excess items, the Chief Manager informed.
Further stating that in areas where fans are not used or is necessary some other items of similar nature and cost may be provided, he said emphasis for such provision to the beneficiary schools should be based on composition of the students belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.
Expressing gratitude to the SBI's humane endeavour, the School headmistress I Modhubala said the educational institution has a total of 20 teaching staff and 185 students.
