Imphal, March 25 2015:
People are facing the problem of water scarcity in February and March as the State Government does not have any proper planning and system of rain water harvesting.
This was stated by Manipur Loumee Lup president N Mangi while speaking at a press conference held at Irawat Bhawan today.
He said that issues of incomplete projects of the State Government and problem of water scarcity were mainly deliberated in a meeting of Manipur Loumee Lup held today.
Saying that the Lup considers 2015 as the year of water, N Mangi demanded the Government to prepare a water policy to ensure irrigation and drinking water to the people of the State.
Although, Manipur receives plenty of rainfall during rainy season, the State faces the problem of water scarcity in February and March every year due to the absence of a proper system to harvest rain water.
He also demanded the Government to construct tube-wells at different localities and protect wetlands.
N Mangi further demanded that a Cabinet meeting be convened to deliberate the water woes at the earliest.
Manipur Loumee Lup would launch different forms of agitation from the first week of April if the Government fails to make arrangements to provide adequate drinking and irrigation water within this month.
