Imphal, January 25 2023:
Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs Manipur (FATYCM) has demanded decentralization of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) programs directly to DRDA for proper and effective implementation of MGNREGS fund in their respective district to ensure administrative convenience.
In a statement, FATYCM has cited alleged misappropriation of MGNREGS fund in the hill districts of Manipur since 2021 and the Government's inability to provide 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to each household in rural areas as the main reasons for their demand.
The statement claimed that the Government provided only 16-20 days of guaranteed wage employment in the last year in Manipur.
Further, it added that, if demanded employment is not provided within 15 days, the applicant is entitled to an unemployment allowance to be paid by the State Government.
FATYCM has accused the Government of failing to properly implement MGNREGS in Manipur, which in turn, has led to its poor performance.
As such, FATYCM has called for decentralization of the scheme for effective implementation and maintenance of funds.
