WAD reaffirms stand against violence towards women and children

Imphal, November 24 2021:
Women Action For Development (WAD) will take part in 'The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence' to be observed for 16 days from November 25, which is the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, till December 10 .
In a statement released today, WAD has informed that the Organisation along with other CSOs and stakeholders has been participating in this international event every year in order to end violence against women and girls in Manipur.
The statement further informed that WAD has documented 135 cases of violence against women and children from January 1, 2021 to November 23 through local newspapers.
Out of the 135 cases, there were 29 rapes, 1 gang rape, 6 murders, 5 suicides, 9 suspicious deaths, 4 molestations, 21 assaults, 22 missing cases, 2 rape attempts, 2 delivery deaths, 1 assault with delivery, 9 crowd control assault, 1 sexual harassment, 5 kidnappings, 4 cyber crimes and 5 medical negligence deaths respectively.
WAD further urged the Government to launch bold actions and commitments to end violence against women.
