PWD executes improvement works on 4376.139 kms of road

Imphal, June 24 2016 : The State Public Works Department has taken up improvement/upgradation of 4376.139 km of road length during the period from 2004-05 to 2015-2016.Out of 4376.139 km, 81.80 km of road was taken up under the funding of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) and 163.05 km under Central Road Fund (CRF).

2456.39 km has been improved upto black topping and 678.59 km laid with sand single and 339.39 km improved upto WBM.

Construction of 84 bridges was also taken up by PWD from 2004-05 to 2015-16.Out of 63 bridges, 20 bridges were taken up under the funding of NLCRP, one bridge under CRF.

So far 81 bridges are completed.

Five works (Improvement of 230.72 km road and 1 SBT) were sanctioned by NEC.

Out of 230.72 km, 124.20 km of black topping has been completed.

Two externally aided projects with the assistance from ADB under implementation are North Eastern State Road Investment Program (NESRIP); two roads� i) Tupul to Bishnupur (50.80 km) and ii) Thoubal to Kasom Khullen (47.125 km) were taken up with sanctioned cost of Rs 27701 lakh.

The cost is being revised to Rs 40520 lakh.

Out of 50.80 km of road from Tupul to Bishnupur laying GSB for length of 20.20 km completed and out of 47.125 km of the road from Thoubal to Kasom Khullen laying of BT for 9 km has been completed.

Under SASEC Road Connectivity Improvement Program, two roads� i) Imphal � Kangchup Tamenglong (103.02 km) and ii) Imphal Ring Road (36.420 km) are being constructed at the cost of Rs 154024 lakh.

The work for Imphal � Kangchup-Tamenglong has also been awarded and finalized.

Under Public Administrative Building (PAB), construction of Capital Complex under SPA funding of Rs 68825 lakh (revised) was taken up against the original cost of Rs 31754 lakh.

Assembly Complex and High Court Complex were inaugurated and works for Civil Secretariat are in progress.

77 pc of the work has been completed.

Expenditure of Rs 53088.77 lakh has incurred so far.

Rs 11000 lakh has been earmarked for construction of Capital Complex (SPA) during 2015-16.Construction of ADC complexes of Kangpokpi, Jiribam, Moreh and Pherzawl and Mini Secretariat Complexes of Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Senapati, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Chandel have been completed and inaugurated.

Whereas, construction of Mini Secretariat at Churachandpur is in progress.

Construction of 19 SDC offices ( ie 5 in Hill districts and 14 in Valley districts ) and construction of 17 SDO offices (12 in Hill districts and 5 in Valley districts) were also taken up from 2004-05 to 2015-16 .

The Department has also taken up important buildings as deposit works ie infrastructure of JNIMS at Imphal, City Convention Centre at Imphal, Thoubal Shopping Complex at Thoubal, Multipurpose hall for YAS at Senapati, setting up of IT-SEZ building and Development of Integrated Mega Circuit at Marjing Polo, Kaina, Khebaching.

Whereas, construction of City Convention Centre and Thoubal Shopping Complex at Thoubal have been completed.

25 works (ie 21 bridges and 4 roads) have been sanctioned by Ministry of DoNER under NLCPR scheme during 2004 till date.

Rs 13043.73 lakh has been sanctioned and Rs 10641.80 lac has been released against the sanction amount so far.

Out of 25 works, 21 works are completed and 4 works are in progress.

Under Central Road Fund (CRF), a sum of Rs 1230 lakh has been provided for the work during 2015-16.A sum of Rs 667 lakh had been released by Ministry of Road Transport and utilized.

A sum of Rs 703 lakh has been released during 2015-16 and being utilized.

Four CRF works have been sanctioned by MORTH during 2015-2016 (till date) .

Under the Border Area Development Programme (BADP), the Department has also completed construction of road from Kamjong (Block-cum-Sub-Division Headquarters) Assam Rifles Bn Headquarters to Kongkan Thana (Huimin) via Bongpa, Grihang, Ningchow, Nambisa (AR Post) and construction of road from Numbisa to Khudengthabi.

NEC Road: Construction of road from Kangpokpi to Tamenglong (119.75 km) is in good progress.

The physical progress of work from Tamei to Tamenglong (49.75 Km) is 80 pc and from Kangpokpi to Tamei (70 km) is 75 pc.

The expenditure incurred for Tamenglong-Tamei is Rs 5713.48 lakh against sanctioned cost of Rs 6969 lakh and for Kangpopkpi- Tamei is Rs 6111.11 lakh against the sanction cost of Rs 8995 lakh.

Improvement of Bishnupur-Nungba Road (Old Cachar road/Tongjei Maril) is in progress.

The expenditure incurred is Rs 4276.38 lakh against sanctioned cost of Rs 14771 lakh.
