Governor calls stakeholders to pursue TB elimination

Governor of Manipur Dr.Najma Heptulla has called upon all the stakeholders to pursue vigorously to eliminate Tuberculosis.
Addressing the 36th World Tuberculosis Day at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science auditorium, Governor Najma Heptulla said, "The purpose of the observance is well reflected in the theme "Unite to end TB : Leave No One Behind" .
"TB is curable.
Proper awareness needs to be taken up to disseminate this information through various ways in the society starting from school," the Governor added.
The Governor also expressed concern over the stigma associated with the disease and said efforts need to be taken up to clear all doubts associated with TB.

"It is also a matter of great satisfaction that the Government of India under WHO has been taking up various measures to eradicate TB from the country.
A well-orchestrated awareness campaign and an informed public will help in effective application of the preventive measures," she added.
One common cause of the TB in the lung is the inhalation of smoke emanated from burning of firewood.
This is most common among women who use firewood for cooking.
The disease is also common among those who smoke, she added.
The Governor also released the Annual Report 2016 (Revised National Tuberculosis Control programme) .
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand and JNIMS Director Dr Laishram Deben were also present at the programme.
The programme was organised by State TB Cell, NHM, DTC Imphal East and West, VIHAAN.
Earlier in the morning, Chief Medical Officer, Imphal East Dr Kh Indra Singh flagged off a rally at CMO Complex, Porompat.
The rally, participated by ASHA workers, DOT providers and NGO members of Imphal East and Imphal West districts among others, culminated at JNIMS auditorium gate.
Renowned singer Guru Rewben Mangshava and his troupe also presented an opening song during the observance.
