Senapati, May 23 2016:
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) undertook an inspection to assess the prevailing state of affairs and found loopholes with the functioning of the District Employment Exchange Office and District Transport Office, Senapati, a statement informed.
A team led by SDSA president Pungdi P Celestine made a visit to the Employment Exchange Office, Senapati, wherein they found a long line of people queued up under the scorching sun waiting desperately for officials to turn up.
When the office opened about an hour past the office timing, only a few staff were present.
When questioned, it was learnt that many of the office staff had retired and the vacancies have not been filled.
The office on the other hand had no supervisors and the daily affairs of the office was managed by a lower division clerk.
To top it off, all the process of documentation are done manually as computers have not been installed yet.
The team detected similar loopholes at the district Motor Vehicles Department, SDSA said in the statement.
While it takes only a few days to obtain a driving license elsewhere, the people in the district have to wait for months for the same.
The major cause of the delay was acute shortage of man power in the office as well as the fact that the officer-in-charge keeps himself busy with other work in the State capital (Imphal) ignoring the duties assigned to him, it said.
The student body has intimated its displeasure with the departments through telephone with the hope that they would take up necessary measures to remedy the same.
The department concerned has, however, failed to follow the directives requested by the student body, it added.
