Frequent exposure to loud noise: One in every 10 person will be prone to hearing problem

Horizon Hospital & Research Institute Khurai Soibam Leikai, Ayang Pali Road in association with Eastern popular Club, Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai and coordinating body, Khurai organised an ENT camp at Lamlong Higher Secondary School, Khurai Lamlong as part of Khongjom Day observation.
The ENT camp was carried out from 10 am till 2 in the evening.
State Nodal Officer, National Programme for Preservation & Control of Deafness (NPPCD), NHM Manipur, Dr T Manihar stated that the population of people with hearing problems is increasing rapidly across the globe adding that 5 percent of the total 426 million population has hearing problems.
He went on to state that one in every ten people will have hearing problem in 2050 if this current trend continues.
Manihar maintained that the camp was organised to raise awareness about the problem among the masses and conduct screening test at the same time.
Stating that similar camp has been organised at Lamboikhongnangkhong, he added that it will also be held at Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts among other places as well.
He informed that people will likely become deaf at the age of 70-80 years if they are frequently exposed to loud noises.
Appealing all to conduct hearing test on newly born babies, he further stated that the test can be carried out before the mother is discharged from the hospital after giving birth and added that hearing aid should be used at the right time if doctor advises.
Coordinating body Khurai spokesperson Ibohal wished a healthy society with a healthy body on Khongjom Day.
