Imphal, April 23 2013:
Remembering the heroics of the forefathers in taking head long the British invaders in 1891 on April 23, that has come to be observed as Khongjom Day today, the United Revolutionary Front has stated that the day calls for introspection.
Hailing the sacrifices of the martyrs, the outfit, in a statement said that after the British left India, Manipur (Hill State) too regained her independence.
However it was due to the guile of India that Manipur was 'annexed' which has led to the protracted state of war in the region today.
If India had maintained the status quo then the two Nations could have co-existed as friendly neighbours and become developed.
Wanting independence for oneself but disrespecting the aspirations of others is anathema to peace and hence the prolonged confrontation and fights between the 'revolutionaries' of Manipur and India, it asserted.
A people who rose against the then mightiest Nation on earth is not going to forced into submission, said URF and added that the efforts of India to misinterpreted history and the facts can never succeed.
Stating that there is no reason why the lost freedom cannot be regained, the outfit said that the fight is still going on.
The statement said that URF too would continue to wage the struggle without any hesitancy until the aspirations of the people are achieved.
