Imphal, November 22 2010: A combined security force apprehended a couple who are alleged to be cadres of the proscribed KCP (Khaba Meitei) faction along with 20 hand grenades and 69 ammunition of AK Rifles.

The hand grenades were found concealed inside properly sealed fish cans.

Parading the arrested UG couple along with the hand grenades and the ammunition seized from them at the Commando complex here on Saturday.

The UG couple have been identified as Nongthombam Jiten (42) of Khurai Kongpal Kongkham Leikai and his wife Biyenti.

They are staying in a rented house at Lamphal Sanakeithel.

According to police report, based on a specific information received by the 26 Assam Rifles, 12 Maratha Light Infantry, a search operation was launched along with Imphal West District Police Commandos and arrested the UG couple from their rented house at around 6 pm on Nov 19 .

Assistant Commandant of 26 Assam Rifles Taru told reporters that the hand grenades which were found concealed inside properly sealed fish cans and the AK ammunition were recovered from the rented house of the UG couple at their own disclosure.

The AR officer further informed that Jiten and his wife Biyenti joined the outfit some three months back and they have been working as overground workers apart from providing shelters to other UG cadres of the outfit.

One Ibungo of the outfit handed over 20 hand grenades and 119 AK ammunition to the couple in October midweek.

But some days after that, Ibungo took back 50 ammunition, the AR officer added.

Meanwhile, troops of 22 Assam Rifles seized three IEDs from a Tata Sumo coming from Jiribam at Lalpani (Cachar, Assam) along National Highway 53 on Saturday last.

Reporting from Jiribam, out correspondent said that the seizure was made during a frisking operation.

All the occupants in the Tata Sumo and the seized IEDs have been handed over to Jirighat police station.

UGs arrested:Thoubal district police commandos apprehended one KYKL cadre while frisking and checking at Kakching Khunou on November 20 at around 4 pm.

In a statement, the Additional SP of the District Jogeshchandra Haobijam identified the arrested KYKL cadre as Heikrujam Nanao Singh 927) s/o H Koireng of Laimanai Mamang Leikai.

On the other hand, the commandos of the district police apprehended one woman cadre of PLA while frisking and checking at Wabagai Kadajit at around 4.20 pm on November 18 .

Informing this in a statement, Sr SP of the district Clay Khongsai identified the arrested woman PLA cadre as Keisham Amubi Devi (43) d/o late K Gopal Singh of Wabagai Kadajit.
