' 12.96 cr for 30 new model schools under ADCs

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) approved projects worth '12.96 crores in the Education Sector of Manipur.
In the 96th Meeting of the NLCPR Committee held in New Delhi recently, '12.96 crores was recommended for sanction of the construction of 30 Model Primary School Buildings for the six Autonomous District Councils in Manipur.
Sources said that this was part of Phase I of the construction of 300 Modern Primary Schools under the ADCs of Manipur to be undertaken by Ministry of DoNER in the light of the directions of the Supreme Court to improve education infrastructure in the Autonomous Councils of the State.
The components would include buildings, rain water harvesting and fencing.
The matter was discussed during the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in New Delhi on June 4, 2011 with the CM of Manipur and senior Union Ministers.
Earlier this month in the 94th meeting of the NLCPR committee, ' 9.72 crores was recommended for sanction of the infrastructure development of nine government colleges in the valley and hills in Manipur and ' 12.3 crores for construction of seventribal markets in the state.
Minister of DoNER BK Handique said that steps were being taken to hasten the process of sanction to facilitate the early execution of projects under NLCPR.
