Imphal, February 22 2015:
The violent incident at Lilong Haoreibi College centre yesterday in connection with the expulsion of two students was the fallout of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) Chairman's erroneous move, various civil bodies alleged.
Speaking to reporters during a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) president Md Farid Khan said that after examining the answer scripts of two students who were accused of copying, no evidence was found that the two students copied each other's papers.
The press meet was attended by members of AMMSO, Lilong Haoreibi College Students' Union, Anjuman, Online Forum of Manipur Muslim, Muslim Students' Union of Manipur and Committee on Quality Education, Lilong.
Farid Khan said that the statement made by the Council's chairman in order to cover up his wrong deeds on reaching Imphal yesterday was baseless.
The mob which damaged the vehicles was formed by students who appeared for the exams at the centre and not otherwise, he said.
Khan also said that it was very unfortunate that the Joinst Students' Coordinating Committee made comments on the incident without knowing the ground reality.
As such, Khan said, Muslim organisations would announce a non-cooperation movement to the students' body if the JSCC fails to clarify the matter within five days.
He further demanded a departmental enquiry against the COHSEM Chairman and his resignation on moral ground.
He also condemned the violent incident yesterday resulting in the damage of several vehicles.
