510 kg of ganja seized

Senapati, July 21 2014:
Terming it as the largest quantities of marijuana seized by Assam Rifles in a covert operation, the 35 AR Senapati seized 510 kg of ganja packed in plastic bags.
Six persons in connection to the incident has been arrested.
The apprehendees have been identified as Chingreishang Khamrang, 37 years of age, S/o Anmi, Luckson, 34 years, S/o (L) Ngachanmi, Them Singh, 37 years, S/o Kumar, all from Torah Village, Ukhrul Dist., and Kathipri, 16 years, s/o Koda of Tadubi, Ganesh Chhetry, 25 years, s/o Krishna from Karong and Grija Chhetry, 24 years, s/o Ramu from Karong.
After a tip off, an operation was conducted by 35AR jawans between Karong and Senapati at 10pm on July 18 in which a truck bearing registration number NL-08 A-4274 was caught and six persons were apprehended for carrying contraband marijuana worth crore of rupees.
They were caught along with the truck which were loaded with 51 packets of ganja wrapped in black plastic, weighing about 10 kg per packet.
According to the apprehendees, the illegal goods were to be transported across the Manipur-Nagaland border.
Soon after their arrests, they were handed over to Senapati Police Station on July 19 by 35AR for further investigation.
The Senapati Police registered a case under FIR No.18 (7)), 2014, Spt.
Police station under section 20 (b)(1)/60 ND & P.S.Act.
The police stated that there will be further investigation to identify the truck owners.
