Imphal, April 21 2020:
The Indian Medical Association Manipur State Branch (IMA, MSB) will be observing a Candlelight homage and vigil "White Alert" on April 22 at 9 pm in honour of all those health workers who have lost their lives in the battle to fight COVID 19 from the forefront.
In this regard, a press release issued by IMA , MSB appealed all doctors, nurses, paramedics, sanitation workers, lab technicians, attendants and all those involved in providing healthcare services to light a candle at 6.30 pm "to show our unity in this time of distress" .
It also appealed to the Indian Dental Association, Trained Nurses Association of India TNAI-Manipur, Medical & PG students, NGOs and CSOs to show solidarity to their common cause.
While expressing its appreciation to the State Government and to all those agencies involved in combating the highly contagious virus particularly the State COVID Team, RIMS, JNIMS, the nursing community, paramedics, cleaning staff, ambulance drivers, the Police Department, and media teams among others, IMA added that the mass general awareness drive initiated by the State Health Department has resulted in a lot of goodwill for the Health Care Workers (HCWs) of Manipur, unlike other States which have seen increased incidents of violence against doctors /HCWs.
Doctors have been abused, beaten up, denied entry and residence in many parts of the country, IMA said and demanded a special central law to check violence on doctors, nurses, health care workers and hospital.
If the Government of India fails to enact central law on violence against doctors and hospitals even after White Alert, IMA will observe Black Day on Thursday, April 23, it said and appealed to all doctors in the country to work with black badges.
