UTLA chief, body guard surrender

Security forces of Red Shield Division accomplished yet another milestone towards ushering peace and harmony in Manipur by facilitating surrender of a top UTLA leader along with his bodyguard on September 20, informed a PIB (DW) statement.
The militant leader identified as Pao Khulen (73) is a resident of Village K Daiveijang of Tamenglong district and is the Founder and Advisor of UTLA, presently working with the SK Thadou faction.
His bodyguard has been identified as Mimin (24), a resident of Moreh Ward No 7 in Chandel district.
Pao Khulen stated that he, along with few other leaders and cadres of UTLA (SK Thadou) were looking forward to join the mainstream of the society through peace talks with the government.
After last month's incident of five cadres surrendering to security forces in Jiribam region the individual along with his bodyguard was convinced to surrender to the personnel of Red Shield Division who were actively involved in process of peace talks between UTLA (SK Thadou) and the government, maintained the statement.
The two surrendered militants also laid down their weapons in front of the security forces which includes one 9mm pistol with six rounds and a carbine with magazine and 11 rounds.
