Janata Dal United (JDU) Manipur State Unit organised a one day political conference at Lamyanba Shanglen Konung Mamang today.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, former Rajya Sabha MP and National Secretary (JDU) KC Tyagi said that the North East States are facing myriad of problems but Manipur is facing the most number of problems among these States.
He claimed that Manipur has been neglected by the Central Government and as such it is one of the most backward States in the country today.
He demanded the Government to ensure hat PDS items are properly distributed to the poor people through the Fair Price Shops (FPS) .
The former Rajya Sabha MP added that it would be right ' to revoke AFSPA from the State as the people of the State have long suffered under the Act.
On the other hand he said that the authorities concerned to take up proper steps to stop smuggling of drugs and other illegal items from Myanmar.
Life imprisonment and even death penalty for those involved in such illegal activities should also be discussed in the Assembly, he added.
National general secretary and NE in-charge Harivansh Narayan Singh, national secretary (JDU) Afaque Ahmed Khan, member of People Democratic Alliance of Nagaland Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, general secretary (JDU) Nagaland Kitoho S Rotokha, State president (JDU) Manipur Hongkhanpao Taithul, member of National Council (JDU) MA Salam and senior VP (JDU) Manipur State Limjalet Haokip attended the event as the presidium members.
