Imphal, November 19 2011:
As decided by the central committee of MPP on November 17, reacting against the offer of "Supra State Body" for the Nagas by the Union government, the party today staged a sit in protest at the office gate of MPP here in Imphal today.
Apart from staging at sit in protest at its office gate today, the party is also all set to submit a representation to the Union Home Minister, Prime Minister, Manipur Governor and all political parties.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Nimaichand Luwang, President of MPP said that the party is against the decision of the Union Government to offer a "Supra State Body" for the Nagas.
The party, as is written in its constitution, stands for the territorial integrity of Manipur.
It will safeguard the identity of all the ethnic communities in the state.
It is the right and duty of the state government to take up development programmes, safeguard the interest of all communities of the state and to save the territorial integrity of the state.
No body has the right to interfere in this regard and the constitution of India also does not allow any body to interfere as such, he said.
He further went on to say that the Congress party at the Centre does not recognize Manipur, as such it is trying to destroy the state by forming a "Supra State Body" for the Nagas.
The concept of "Supra State Body" came into existence as a result of the close door meeting which was held at Senapati with Home Minister P Chidambaram, Chief Minister O Ibobi and delegates of UNC.
The Congress and the Union government should realize that they can never destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur.
If they continue to insist on the issue of "Supra State Body" there will be a civil war in the state, he said.
Ex President of MPP, Dr L Chandramani, leader of the Legislative Wing, O Joy, Ex Union Minister Th Chaoba, MPP Youth Front members, Chanura Marup members and others also took part in the sit in protest.
