Bypass route mooted

A bypass road will be the only measure to put aside the fear of thousands of villagers in Sulam area whose normal lives have been affected by a landslide on July 31, said SACA chairman Ts Samuel.
Chairman of Sulam Area Chiefs' Association (SACA) Ts Samuel was speaking to media on the sideline of an inspection conducted at the spot to assess damage of the landslide on Chandel Vomku road today.
Efforts put in to construct a motorable road at this area proved futile and it has led to the entire region of Sulam area remained cut off.
Sustenance of livelihood in this area has become dangerous as people could not transport day to day household needs.
Old, weak, sick and pregnant women are the worst affected, Samuel added.
He also said that other routes to Sulam area, Tengnoupal New Samtal road are also not accessible due to major a major landslide of the road near Angbrasu village.
While briefing the media on the sideline of the inspection, Assistant Engineer of PWD, WL Robertson Anal said that in addition to development of several numbers of landslides along Chandel-Vomku and Tengnoupal-New Samtal road, a gorge measuring about 120 metre and 35-metre deep developed on Chandel Vomku road have cut off the villagers of Sulam area and Khenjoy block.
He added that relief materials could not reach the areas.
Robertson also said that alternative route (bypass) is required.
The official team included MDCs of 13-Vomku Ts Kanlun and 11-Pantha Sh Manglem Monsang, AE of PWD Chandel Division WL Robertson Anal, SO of PWD Romen Aimol, contractors Hl Lovingson, Rd Ngamdar and village chiefs.
