2 vehicle lifters nabbed with Activa

Imphal, June 19 2012: Imphal East commandos today nabbed two vehicle lifters along with stolen vehicles.

Briefing media persons in Imphal East District Police headquarters this afternoon, Addl SP (Ops) Moirangthem Rajen said that the two vehicle lifters were apprehended in the course of a counter insurgency operation which covered the area from Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai to Loklaobung (new Thumbuthong) .

M Rajen said that he commanded the operation under the supervision of SP Kamei Angam Romanus.

The apprehended men have been identified as Md Iliyaz Khan (21) s/o Abas Khan of Sangaiyumpham Pulleipokpi, Thoubal district and Md Jallaluddin (36) s/o late Md Hellal-uddin of Lilong Ushoipokpi.

They lifted one Honda Activa (MN-01D/3055) belonging to Khangenbam Nishikanta of Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai, Kongba Road last night.

The Honda Activa was kept in the outhouse of Nishikanta.

As they were riding the Honda Activa towards new Thumbuthong in a suspicious manner, police commandos halted them for verification.

On questioning, it was established that the Honda Activa they were riding was a stolen one, Rajen said.

It was Iliyaz who broke the lock and brought out the vehicle.

It is said that Iliyaz used to work in an automobile workshop earlier.

Both Iliyaz and Jallaluddin are drug abusers.

Following registration of an FIR case at Porompat police station, police have launched due investigation into the case, informed the Additional SP .
