2 non-Manipuris shot dead

Imphal, September 18 2011:
Amidst the high presence of security personnel two non-Manipuris hailing from Bihar have been shot dead in the heart of Imphal during the last 24 hours.
Unidentified armed persons shot dead a non- Manipuri this morning at around 8 am at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai.
The deceased has been identified as one Kamlesh Das (23) s/o Babuldas hailing from Bihar, presently staying at a rented house at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai.
He used to work as a mason.
In a similar attack which occurred around 5:30 pm yesterday evening, another Non- Manipuri was also shot dead by unknown armed persons at Nagamapal Soram Leirak while he was riding on a bicycle.
The deceased has been identified as one Upendra Mukhira (25) s/o Holkheri hailing from Sitamari district of Bihar.
With these latest incidents, altogether 79 non-locals have been shot dead in the last one decade.
Maximum numbers of non-locals were killed in the year 2009 .
Altogether 30 non-locals were shot dead in that year.
Meanwhile, following the renewed attacks on the non-locals, the state home department has taken up stringent measures to thwart the development.
Non-locals residing in the vulnerable places in and around Imphal have been herded together in Dharamsala area in the heart of Imphal by the police as a preventive measure.
These two incidents were the first in the year 2011 of attacks on the non-locals.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the killings.
