Imphal, July 17 2024:
The All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation (AKRUCO) has cautioned the Government that the stretch of Imphal-Yairipok Road from Kongba Bridge to Keirao Salam will be blocked from July 19 if the Government and authorities concerned fail to repair the road at the earliest.
In a release, AKRUCO informed that construction work of Imphal-Yairipok Road especially the stretch from Kongba Bridge to Keirao Salam which began after repeated appeals to the Chief Minister and Works Minister has been halted for several months causing a lot of inconveniences to the commuters.
AKRUCO stated that it had also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Engineer, PWD, Government of Manipur earlier and even met with the contractor tasked with the work and the EE Imphal East requesting them to resume the road construction work.
AKRUCO continued that on June 6, 2024, members of the organisation met with the Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam and apprised him about the deplorable condition of the road.
"During the meeting, the Minister assured to begin the construction work within 2-3 days after talking with the contractor and relevant Department", it added.
AKRUCO lamented that despite the assurance given by the Works Minister, there is no sign of resuming the road development work which has been halted for the last couple of months.
AKRUCO asserted that it takes the negligence of the contractor and failure of the authority concerned to look into the woes of the people caused by the non-completion of Imphal-Yairipok road construction work very seriously.
AKRUCO further appealed to the Government to take immediate measures to repair the road at the earliest failing which the organisation will be compelled to block the road from 12.00 AM of July 19, 2024 .
