Kakching police clarifies on misunderstanding with villagers

Kakching police have clarified regarding an incident which created a misunderstanding between the police and the villagers of Laiching Kangsang which is located under Tengnoupal police station.
According to the police, a team of Kakching police personnel was working on a case registered against the village chief of Laiching Kangsang, Y Mosun, who was accused of using offensive words and derogatory actions against a social activist on March 9 at a place, under Kakching police station.
Following the case, the police have been searching for Mosun for the past few days as he could not be found in the village.
The police stated that a team of Kakching police went to Mosun's house to bring his mother to the police station in connection with her son's enquiry but her mother was found with his (Mosun's) eight year old daughter in the house.
As the police could not leave the girl alone in the house, both of them were taken to the police station.
However, a misunderstanding arose between the locals of Laiching Kangsang after Mosun's mother and daughter were taken to the police station.
Following the misunderstanding, a sit in protest was staged by people from four villages namely Laiching Khunman, Laiching Kangsang, Laiching Maipou and Laiching Khullen, at Laiching Kangsang against the arrest of the minor girl by Kakching police.
Speaking to a team of media persons, Maring Nupuya Yinglam secretary Tophun Charang accused Kakching police of arresting Tophun (Mosun's mother) and her granddaughter on the midnight of March 15.He condemned the action of the police personnel stating that arresting a minor without the presence of a Child Welfare Committee member is unacceptable and unconstitutional.
The act of arresting an individual without informing the village chief or even the police station of the area is highly condemnable.
All Laiching Village Authority Action Committee president, T Kothang, who was also present in the protest demonstration, condemned the act and urged the authorities concerned to take immediate action against the police personnel involved in the incident while cautioning that different CSOs along with the locals will take up stringent form of agitations if the authority concerned fails to take suitable action against the security personnel.
On the other hand, Kakching police further clarified that the incident was misinterpreted by the locals and that they did not arrest Tophun and her granddaughter and that they were taken merely for enquiry only.
The police further stated that the duo have been safely handed over to their relatives today, after clearing the misunderstanding.
Kakching police SP, Victoria Yengkhom called both the relatives and representatives of Y Mosun and the victim (social activist) at Kakching police station, where the village chief admitted to his fault and apologised to the victim for his action.
An amicable solution was reached between the parties and the locals of Laiching Kangsang further apologised to Kakching police for misinterpreting the incident as an arrest.
