Technical workshop held

A one-day technical workshop on 'enhancing rice production and productivity through recommendation of HYVs/Hybrids and their approved agronomic practices for North Eastern Hill Region' was held today at the conference hall of college of Agriculture (COA), CAU.
Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir and director, Directorate of Rice Development (Patna) Dr MC Diwakar were the chief guest and functional president respectively of the inauguration programme while Commissioner (Agriculture) Rajesh Agarwal and Director (Agriculture) G Shamu Kabui were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Director of Research (CAU) M Ruhinikumar Singh highlighted that the workshop is part of the National Food Security Mission's endeavour to enhance production of food grains with special emphasis on rice cultivation.
Stating that the technical workshop aims at rice production and protection from pests, he conveyed that rice production needs to be increased as rice production in the North East Region falls short by about 25 percent compared to the requirement.
During the technical session, Professor of College of Agriculture, CAU Dr Ph Ranjit Sharma and Senior Scientist (Plant breeding) of ICAR-RC, Lembucherra (Tripura) DR SP Das deliberated on 'rice varieties suitable for different rice agro-ecosystems of NEH Region and their characteristics'; Principal Scientist (Seed Technology) of ICAR, Lamphelpat Dr I Meghachandra and Deputy Director of Research, CAU Dr K Noren Singh on 'quality seed production and supply for rice varieties for different rice agro-ecosystem of NEH Region'; Professor & Head (Agronomy), COA Dr RK Kumarjit Singh and Scientist (Soil science) ICAR, Lamphelpat Dr D Sarkar on 'integrated nutrient management for sustainable rice crop production for different rice cultural practices under different agro-ecosystem of NEH Region' .
