Imphal, August 16 2014 : A 42 year old man allegedly raped a minor girl of his neighbourhood yesterday at around 10.30 am at Thinungei Awang Maning Leikai Ward No 9 under Moirang Police station.

Enraged by the horrible criminal act, local people dismantled the house of the accused later in the evening itself.

According to a source, the incident occurred yesterday at around 10.30 am after the accused identified as Angom Sanathoi 42, son of (L) Ibocha of Thinungei Awang Maning Leikai Ward No 9 took the minor girl to a nearby open space on the northeastern side of the victim's residence on the pretext of giving sweets.

From there, he took the girl inside a bamboo grove.

On hearing cries of the minor girl, family members and people of the neighbourhood rushed to the particular direction and they found the minor girl crying next to the accused.

After the alleged accused was caught red handed by the locals and victim's family, Sanathoi was brought out from the spot and handed over to police after some thrashing at around 11.30 am.

A case has been registered at Bishnupur women police station in connection with the incident.

A group of infuriated locals later dismantled the house of the accused in the evening.

People of Thinungei Awang Leikai held a meeting today at Thinungei Bazar regarding the heinous crime committed against the minor girl and formed a JAC.

It resolved not to allow the accused and their family members to live in their locality further.

The JAC has appealed to the concerned authority to give befitting punishment to the accused as per the law of the land at the earliest for the crime he had committed against the minor girl.

On the other hand the accused was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Bishnupur today and was remanded to police custody for five days till August 20 for further police investigation.

Medical examination of the minor girl was conducted yesterday noon at RIMS Forensic Science laboratory.
