Imphal, July 16 2018:
Expressing deep anguish against the authorities' indifference to the collective agitation of MUSU, MUTA and MUSA for dismissal of VC Prof AP Pandey, MUSU has called a 48 hour State-wide general strike from July 17 midnight till July 19 midnight.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, MUSU president M Dayaman reiterated that dismissal of Prof Pandey is a non-negotiable collective stand of MUSU, MUTA and MUSA.
A high level enquiry committee should investigate into his financial and administrative irregularities only after he is dismissed from the post of VC.
By shielding Prof Pandey, both the Central Government and the State Government have shown total apathy to the thousands of students whose career is under serious threats, Dayaman said.
The constitution of a low profile fact finding committee is nothing but an act condoning Prof Pandey.
The 48 hours general strike is against the Government of India's failure to take up any action towards restoring normal academic atmosphere in Manipur University, said the MUSU president.
MUSU is aware of the difficulties caused by general strike to the public but MUSU has been compelled to call a 48 hour general strike in the interest of MU and the State's student community, he said.
Essential services and religious functions would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
He said that MUSU strongly condemns the brutal police crack down on DESAM volunteers at BJP Manipur Pradesh office today.
The Government should identify all guilty police personnel and ensure that justice is done, he added.
