Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East has today remanded K Karnajit to three days police custody and directed the IO of case to keep the health of the accused at priority.
It is said that K Karnajit has tested positive for COVID-19 .
The Court also directed the IO to not only provide all due care and treatment to the accused during his stay in police custody but also allow access by his family members to take care of the accused, including taking the accused to a well equipped hospital for treatment in case of necessity by making necessary security arrangements.
Karnajit was produced before the Court through video conferencing who is presently in isolation in police station along with a prayer for three days police remand in connection with the case of concealing oxygen cylinder and oxygen concentrators which are supposed to be distributed to the Covid patients of Manipur.
The defence counsel of Karnajit filed a remand objection petition as well as bail application.
The Court after hearing both parties and on perusal of the case record and the material on record revealed that the accused is involved in many other cases.
The Court observed that in the circumstances, likelihood of the accused absconding again cannot be ruled out if granted bail.
The Court fixed June 28 for the next hearing of the case.
