Fire destroys properties worth Rs 30 lakh at Motbung

The devastating fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon at around 6.50 pm at Motbung bazar had completely destroyed a garment store along with all the store articles and a property worth over Rs 28 lakh which also left nearby wooden wall of a baker store partially burnt.
The fire that razed down the 20/40 square feet tin roofing and a wooden wall house worth Rs 8 lakh where a garment store was opened apart from the costly different items of the store was allegedly ignited through electric short-circuit.
According to Gamnom-Saparmeina police, the garment store is worth Rs 8 lakh while all the store items including ladies shoe, mattress, blanket, rack, almirah, show box, cycle, carpet, cash box, and other costly materials and properties worth around Rs 20 lakh were all flatten to the ground mainly due to the late arrival of Fire Brigade from Kangpokpi located around 23 Km away from the Model village.
Haopu Lhouvum, owner of the house and Nengkhonei who run the garment store said that they immediately informed the Fire Sub-Station at Kangpokpi and Imphal as they are the only nearest Fire Sub-Station but they reached the spot half hour later after the house was completely razed to the ground.
"If Fire Brigade was there at Motbung or nearby the area of the house, the property could have been possibly save", said Nengkhonei while adding that without the help and assistance of 38 Assam Rifles, Motbung Post, police personnel of Motbung Out Post and Gamnom-Saparmeina including the likeminded people of Motbung, the nearby Baker House will obviously met the same fate on that ill-fate night.
While conveying heartfelt gratitude to the Assam Rifles personnel, Motbung Out-Post, Gamnom-Saparmeina police personnel and the local denizens of Motbung for their humanitarian service and help, the local bodies of Motbung Model village appealed the concerned authority to compensate the lost accordingly.
The local bodies also demanded to set up Fire Sub-Station at Motbung Model village at the earliest to avoid such devastating fire incident in future stating that such tragic incident or more tragic fire incident could happen again if the people of Motbung and its adjoining areas had to depend on the Fire Brigade at Kangpokpi and Imphal.
Thursday's destructive fire incident at Motbung is the second such incident at the Model village.
On June 15, 2015, a shop in a rented building at Motbung was ravaged by fire destroying properties worth around Rs 20 lakh in a similar fashion in which the Fire Brigade team arrived at the spot after everything was damaged owing to long distance.
