'Development needs good governance'

The Economic condition of the state cannot be assumed good with the increase in per capita income alone.
Political conflicts in the state should be solved first, said MLA O Joy.
Speaking in a MPP conference under the theme 'Economic Development and Peace in Manipur' held at Singjamei, O Joy said that Manipur is still an economically backward state and the Union government also knows this.
One cannot assume the actual figures of the income of the people by studying the per capita income alone.
Although some have excelled many more live a life of misery.
A special economic policy is needed in the state to solve the problem of poverty.
Moreover a peaceful atmosphere is the prime importance to implement economic policies to make the state economically independent.
An accountable government and good governance is needed to bring a solution to the present conflict, O Joy said.
MPP's prospect candidate in the coming general election, Y Khemchand said the number of unemployed persons in the state have increased.
Manipur needs a proper economic policy.
He gave a brief statement on why the MPP had organised the conference to underline the emphasis the theme of 'Economic Development and Peace in Manipur'.
Advocate M Nilachandra, Professor Chinglen, MLA RK Anand, S Umananda and other resource persons also talked on various issues.
