Make OSC effective, says MLA

Ukhrul MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam has urged the newly appointed staff of One Stop Centre (OSC) in Ukhrul to make the centre attractive in order to change women's life and to help them from oppression or violence.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the One Stop Centre (attached to district hospital at Hungpung Ukhrul), MLA Alfred expressed that the OSC was established in order to protect and to provide services to women and their basic rights, who are in need of special care and attention.
He mentioned that OSC staff should not only confine their services on counselling women but also educate men on equal rights and their responsiblity towards women and also to help prevent domestic violence against women and children.
Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamson mentioned that the OSC would provide institutional support to the womenfolk in length.
The centre will provide free accommodation, counselling and medical assistance for five days in the centre.
Any women who have been/are victims of violence, including girls below 18 years, can approach such centre and avail services from the para legal team.
The team will assist them in safeguarding their rights and prevent further abuse including domestic violence, psychology fear and physical harassment etc.
Joseph further urged the people of Ukhrul to disseminate the news about the centre and the available facilities across the district to ensure safety for women.
One stop centre is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented through Social Welfare Department in the State under the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), GoI.
SDO Charchit Gaur and members of Christian Home, TSL president Veronica Zingkhai, leaders of women organizations, CDPO Tabitha, DLOs and well wishers attended the inauguration function at district hospital Hungpung, Ukhrul.
