Awareness programme on drug abuse and prevention conducted

Ukhrul, October 14 2024: Link Worker Scheme (SPYM), Ukhrul conducted a one-day awareness programme on "Capacity Building on Drug Abuse and Prevention" at the Phalang Village Hall yesterday.

The programme was moderated by Wilson Rungsung, Village Secretary.

On the occasion, resource person Asung Zimik, DRP LWS, Ukhrul elaborated on contemporary problems of increasing drug users in the society.

The adverse effects of drugs on youth hampers both the society and family and even hinders personal development of young people, said the resource person.

He called for collective effort and involvement of all community leaders including the parents in cooperating with the NGOs working on drug issues to bring solutions and reduce the burden of drug menace.

Meanwhile, Shimdhar Athary, Programme Manager, PASDO educated the audience on overdose management and administering the cases to prevent fatalities.

Meanwhile resource person Vaomi Shangh stressed on the early signs and symptoms of a person who has started indulging in substance abuse.

He also enlightened them on protecting oneself against drug addiction, dealing with addicts and implementing various life skills.

Over 85 persons including teachers, social workers, community leaders, youth leaders and Church leaders participated in the programme.
