In yet another milestone in the medical history of the State, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) has performed 38 successful kidney transplant surgeries so far.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Dr Kh Palin, chairman cum managing director, Shija Hospitals, said that the hospital has so far conducted 38 successful kidney transplant surgeries after the State Government gave their approval in August 2016.Out of the 38 surgeries, 5 patients were from Nagaland, he said and added that all the donors of the transplantation were relatives.
The hospital also conducts 50 dialysis daily, which is regarded as the highest in eastern India, Dr Palin added.
He said that 40 pc of the fees for dialysis is borne by the Government through their health-care schemes CMHT and Ayushman Bharat.
When asked about prevailing high number of patients for kidney related diseases in the State, Dr Palin opined that it may relate to the lifestyle and eating habit here.
Saying that the hospital had also conducted 100 successful cornea transplant surgeries, Dr Palin conveyed that hospital is now awaiting Government approval to start conducting surgery for liver transplant too.
Over 80 children with holes in their hearts have also been treated using Paediatric Interventional Cardiology method at the hospital, Dr Palin added.
