Malungring Konghar becomes new "Pipa of Konghar clan"

Ukhrul, June 13 2022: Malungring Konghar, son of Late Pashang Konghar has been declared as the new Pipa (legal heredity head) of Konghar clan of Hundung Godah village.

The headman of Hundung Godah village, R Vareshang Shim made the announcement on June 4, 2022 after a Tangkhul traditional water immersion judgement was held at Maklang river.

Speaking to media persons, Malungring Konghar stated that two individuals from the same clan namely Ngamreishang Konghar and Wungreichan Konghar contested against him for the post of village clan head.

"Following the failure to choose the clan head at the village level, Hundung Godah Village Authority unanimously resolved to invoke Tangkhul customary law (TNL section 6 provision clause (iii) of water immersion judgement) to settle the matter once for all", he added.

He mentioned that all the contesting individuals were directed to take part in the water immersion judgement.

"On June 27, 2022, Hundung Godah Village Authority invited the Eastern Tangkhul Naga Villages Association (TNZL) chairman, Joshua Konghar along with headmen of neighbouring villages namely Moses Jajo of Phalang village, Rungshing Angkhang of Leishi village; secretaries and all the villagers to witness the water immersion judgement", he asserted.

After the water immersion judgement, H Godah Village Court announced Malungring Konghar as the legal hereditary head of Konghar clan.
