Thoubal, October 12 2024:
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the abduction of Akoijam Angou by unknown individuals on September 30 from the vicinity of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School.
The JAC has also urged the State Government to trace the whereabouts of the missing man within five days (by October 16) .
It has threatened to launch intense agitations in collaboration with State CSOs from the following day onwards if their demand remains unheeded.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Sanjembam Sorojini, coconvenor, JAC, shared that the missing man's family had approached the State officials concerning AK Angou's abduction and made widespread appeals for his release to any organisations who might have kidnapped him.
However, despite such efforts, Akoijam Angou remains missing even as 13 days have passed since he was abducted.
No groups have claimed responsibility for his kidnapping either, she said.
Stating that it is the State's obligation to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, she asserted that the Government should find the whereabouts of the missing man within five days.
Otherwise, the JAC will initiate a series of democratic protests with the help of many CSOs, she maintained.
It may be noted that Akoijam Angou who hails Thoubal Awang Leikai Sanjenbam Leirak had been staying at a rented house at Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai.
On September 30, he was abducted by unknown persons after he left home to fetch his daughter from a tuition centre at Uripok.
