Imphal, February 11 2025:
Overall performance of the State Wushu team in the 38th National Games was reviewed as district associations of Wushu and Central Wushu Institute (CWI) accorded a warm felicitation to participants and medal winning athletes.
The felicitation programme organised jointly by Imphal East District Wushu Association, Bishnupur District Wushu Association, Thoubal District District Wushu Association and CWI at Gyanand's Beauty Designing Academy, Ningthem Pukhri Mapal was also participated by guardians, coaches and functionaries of the Wushu bodies.
Speaking at the occasion, general secretary of Bishnupur District Wushu Association Surjit Konthoujam and president of Thoubal District Wushu Association Singam Sunil Dutta echoed similar sentiments on the need for improvement in Sanda events.
Notably, Sanda and Taolu are two key disciplines in Wushu.
Sanda is an unarmed full contact and Manipur could win only 4 medals including a gold medal in the discipline at the 38th National Games hosted by Uttarakhand while Taolu athletes brought home as many as 13 medals including 6 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze.
Manipur wushu athletes have been a dominating force in the history of the games and National level championships over the years, they noted while expressing disappointment over the waning dominance in Sanda front in the Uttarakhand games.
They maintained that Manipur has produced as many as four Arjuna awardees from Sanda discipline so far and State's poor finish in the game was regretful, they said while stressing on the need of improving the performances of the players.
Meanwhile, Taolu coach Huidrom Dewan said that Taolu is closely related with indigenous martial artform Thang-Ta.
The State athletes managed 13 medals in this component of Wushu at the games courtesy of their hard work, he said while exuding confidence that they can earn more medals if they are provided world class equipment and more efficient training facilities.
He also called upon all the stakeholders to join forces and remain in constant touch to help players remain ever prepared to face any level of competition in the future.
