TSA announces 36-hours bandh

The Thadou Students' Association (TSA) has announced a 36-hour bandh from 6 am of January 16 till 6 pm of January 17 over the inability of the police to solve three murder cases and the non-introduction of Thadou Kuki language as an MIL subject in higher secondary schools.
The bandh will cover the areas extending from Imphal to Moreh, Imphal to Dimapur, Imphal to Jiribam and Imphal to Churachandpur.
In a media interaction event at the Manipur Press Club today, Michael Lamjathang Haokip, secretary general, TSA - General Headquarters made the announcement while condemning the failure of the State Government to solve the murder cases of Thongkhogin Haokip, Nengkhokim Haokip and Kaikholen Tuiboi.
ML Haokip further informed that Thongkhogin Haokip, an assistant teacher at the Molnom Junior High School, Tengnoupal, was found murdered on February 29, 2016, and Nengkhokim Haokip and Kaikholen Tuiboi on May 5 .
He added 21 -year-old Nengkhokim Haokip aka Cecilia aka Shila, a private school teacher, was gang raped and murdered and her dead body was found at Muoltinchan Village Road Junction near Sugnu.
About a kilometre away from there, the lifeless body of Kaikholen Tuboi, 28, was recovered on the same day.
Despite repeated appeals for justice, the secretary general conveyed that the police have not been able to catch a single suspect.
Then a team of TSA had met the Superintendent of Police, Kakching, Investigating Officer (SDPO Kakching) of this case and the ADGP (L&O).
Previously, MoUs had also been signed and meeting with the local MLA held regarding these cases.
Further on December 22, 2017, the association served an ultimatum to the Home Department for a solution on or before January 10, 2018, but no action has been taken up so far.
Besides bearing the incompetency of the law enforcement agency, the Thadou Students' Association also has to confront the deprivation of the rights of the Thadou tribal students with regard to the non-introduction of Thadou Kuki language.
Michael Lamjathang Haokip informed that the State Government had issued an order to notify the introduction of the language in Classes 11 and 12 way back in 2016 yet it has not been implemented till today.
He cautioned that the TSA will resort to more agitations if the Government keeps on neglecting the matter.
