Imphal, November 10 2012:
A student of Standard College was reportedly subjected to forced verification by some Assam Rifles personnel at the instigation of an individual.
Narrating about the incident at the office of Students' Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK) this evening, the college student identified as Md Nashimuddin (19) s/o Md Habibullah of Urup Awang Leikai said that he was coming to Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong at about 1.30 pm today together with a friend on a Honda Activa to buy a book.
There a man approached Nashimuddin and claimed that the Honda Activa looked like his.
At this, Nashimuddin and the unidentified checked the chassis number of the Honda Activa together.
It turned out that the chassis number claimed by the man was different from the one imprinted on the Honda Activa.
Even after this, the man informed a team of AR who soon arrived at the scene.
Saying that they need to verify Nashimuddin's identity, the AR personnel tried to take him away.
Though women vendors resisted the AR's team design, they, somehow, took away Nashimuddin.
Yet, the women vendors held back the man who called the AR team.
The man was allowed to go only after the AR team released Nashimuddin.
Nashimuddin said that the AR personnel not only questioned but also threatened him.
Incidentally, Md Nashimuddin is preparing to contest in the ensuing Standard College Students' Union election for the post of finance secretary.
