CCpur, August 10, 2012:
With heavy hearts, deep pains and anguishes, Widows Welfare Association Asia (WWAA) along with Churachandpur Joint Women Organisation, Zomi Mothers' Association, Hmar Women's Association, Mizo People's Convention, Ima Leimaren Apunba Lup, and the Kuki Women's Association today submitted a Joint Memorandum to O Ibobi Singh, Manipur Chief Minister on behalf of all the discontented and grieving women of the district.
The memorandum was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of the district after taking out a rally from Lamka Public ground to the office of Deputy Commissioner.
The memorandum noted that womenfolk of Manipur have intermittently petitioned the concerned authority, departments to redress their grievances and demands, but the ruling elites always turn a deaf ear to these demands Apart from toiling under the sun, all the household chores are done by women and so it is pitiful that these poor womenfolk have to waste their precious times in knocking the doors of the government officials.
Demanding issuance of BPL cards to all the needy men and women and ensuring that the BPL cards reach the rightful beneficiaries, the joint memorandum also urged for extending the benefits of Widows Pension Schemes to all widows of Manipur and issuances of Job Cards under MGNREGS to all women of Churachandpur.
The memorandum also demanded constitution of a high empowered committee/body to monitor, supervise and redress the problems and grievances of women in Churachandpur, including ensuring free movement and dignity to women in Manipur.
