NIA takes wanted man into custody

Imphal, January 10 2019: KYKL cadre Laishram Anand alias Sana, whose name is in the wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in connection with the (Ghandel) Paraolon ambush during which 18 personnel of the 6 Dogra regiment were killed and 10 others injured, was formally arrested by NIA today and taken into custody for 10 days.

He was formally arrested by the NIA after he was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, by a team of Imphal PS along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.

Laishram Anand alias Sana (27) s/o Rajen of Chajing Karam Makha Leikai was arrested by a team of Imphal west district police from his residence in the evening of December 28 last year and had been in custody of Singjamei PS and Imphal PS in connection with different cases till today.

The IO of the case, through the APP prayed for remanding the accused into judicial custody for further investigation of the case and after hearing the prayer and going through the case record, the Court remanded Anand to judicial custody till January 24 .

In the meantime, Santanu Pal, AIO of the NIA, filed an application through the Special PP of the NIA, for formal arrest of the accused in connection with the Paraolon ambush.

The Court went through the application filed by NIA and the AIO of the case and allowed formal arrest of the accused.

The Court also ordered that the judicial custody period of the accused be in abeyance during the police custody of NIA and remanded the accused person into 10 days custody of NIA.

It may be mentioned that NIA Guwahati had registered a case in connection with the Paraolon ambush of June 4, 2015 which was carried out by a joint team of militant outfits namely NSCN , KCP and KYKL.

During the course of the investigation, one accused Khumlo Abi Anal alias Ambison, who was allegedly involved in the case was arrested soon after the incident and a charge sheet was filed before the Special Court NIA, Manipur, on December 19, 2015 .

During the course of the NIA investigation, the Special Court NIA also issued non bailable warrants of arrest and proclamation against 17 absconding accused persons for direct involvement in the case.

Three other co-accused of the case, Naorem Premkanta alias Van Damme, Anil Rai alias Anil Sharma alias Meiraba and Moirangthem Nimaichand alias Rakesh alias Lanloi alias Loloi alias Tapan Rai, were also arrested by NIA from different parts of the State and they are presently lodged at Sajiwa Central Jail under judicial custody.

NIA also submitted supplementary charge sheets against the co-accused on July 9 last year.
