AITUC Manipur, NEFIS demand reinstatement of FCI workers

All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee (AITUC) has condemned the abrupt termination of labourers, who were engaged in FCI godowns at Sangaiprou and Jiri and for appointing new labourers by one FCI contractor, Mathai Enterprises.
A press release issued by secretary AITUC Manipur stated that, as per the Industrial Dispute Act 1947 Section 25 (F) and 25 (E), labourers cannot be terminated abruptly while demanding that the labourers should be re-engaged/reappointed.
It further demanded that priorities should be given to the labourers with experience.
It further condemned that no one month prior notice was given to the labourers as per the Contract Labour Act.

Maintaining that contractors concerned are selected/appointed by FCI, it added that befitting punishment should be served to the concerned person(s) who go against the law.
Asking if the authority concerned as well as contractor concerned have no regard about the protest taken up by the labourers, AITUC appealed to the authorities concerned to solve the matter at the earliest.
Earlier, North East Forum For International Solidarity (NEFIS) along with other local organizations had organised a meeting on December 7, against the removal of workers/labourers of FCI.
A press release issued by convenor, NEFIS stated that on December 5, more than 80 casual workers were fired without any prior notice.
These workers were fired bypassing the labour laws, it lamented and added that on the next day, these workers took up protest in front of FCI condemning the illegal firing.
Various organisations like Lukram Leirak Youth Club, Chanura Liching Lup- Meira Paibi, Mahila Mandal Sangaiprou Meira Paibi, The Nupi Weaver Welfare Association Tera Lukram Part lll, attended the meeting in which they pledged to support the workers' struggle and unanimously decided to demand for reinstatement of all the terminated workers.
It also demanded to halt all work until the labourers are taken in.
