Bishnupur, November 09 2024:
The United Protection Committee, Nambol has strongly condemned the heinous killing of a woman today by suspected Kuki militants as they launched indiscriminate gunfire from nearby hills of Saiton Watha Loukon under Kumbi AC in the adjoining area between Bishnupur and Churachandpur district.
A press note issued by Khomdram Sunil Meitei, coconvenor, United Protection Committee, has stated that the innocent woman identified as Sapam Ongbi Sofia was working in the paddyfield at Saiton Watha Loukon when she came under fire from alleged Kuki militants and she tragically lost her life.
United Protection Committee has also condemned the State Government for its alleged negligence, prioritizing of their office/chair more than the lives of innocent civilians and toeing the line set by the "masters" .
The United Protection Committee further expressed shock at the State Government for remaining as mute spectator even as Kuki militants continue to attack innocent civilians despite alleged assurances from the Indian Government to stop such attacks.
Reminding the Government of past attacks by Kuki militants last year on innocent farmers working in their fields during harvest season, United Protection Committee lambasted the State Government for failing to take up pre-emptive security measures.
Stating that the woman was killed today under the noses of the Central Security Forces, the United Protection Committee questioned if the Central Forces have been deployed to stand by as mere onlookers or to protect innocent civilians against "terrorist attacks" or to safeguard inimical forces.
Thus, the United Protection Committee has unequivocally asserted that MLAs of red zone areas should take the responsibility to implement adequate security forces and protection measures in their respective areas or handover the administration to the public.
Lastly, United Protection Committee has shared in the grief of the bereaved family and offered prayers to the Almighty for the departed soul to rest in peace.
