Rs 50 cr spent on flood/hailstorm relief: Awangbow

The State Government spent a total amount of Rs 58,00,16,000 in relief measures for hailstorms and floods which occurred in different parts of the State since March 24 this year, according to Relief and Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai.
Replying to a policy cut motion raised by Th Lokeshwar in the course of discussing Demands for Grants in the State Assembly today, Awangbow said that assessment reports of destruction caused by cyclones, hailstorms and floods in different periods of time have been sent to the Centre.
In order to provide relief and compensation to the people affected by the cyclones and hailstorms which wreaked havoc in different parts of the State between March 24 and May 5, a proposal of Rs 711,42,54,000 has been sent to the Centre.
For Cyclone Remal which swept the State from May 27 to June 6, a proposal of Rs 279,38,63,000 and another proposal of 102,19,95,000 for the monsoon floods have been sent to the Centre, Awangbow Newmai said.
Seven families were affected by lane sinking in Noney yesterday.
Out of them, three families have been accommodated in relief camps while two have gone back to their homes.
The torrential rain also affected 15 families at Kakching while 160 people are staying in relief camps in Waikhong sub-division where around 300 hectares of paddy fields have been inundated.
Around 1298 people have been affected by flood at Nambol, 74 at Bishnupur and 230 at Moirang, Awangbow said.
Considering the extent of damage caused by hailstones, the Government distributed two to three bundles of CGI sheets to the affected families, he said.
He assured that the CGI sheets would be given to left out families, if there is any.
Later, the State Assembly passed eight Demands for Grants amounting to Rs 4051,67,79,000 .
The Demands for Grants passed today were Demand no 7 (Police) - Rs 3112,68,23,000, Demand no.24 (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department)- Rs 6,47,01,000, Demand no 31 (Fire Protection and Control) - Rs 58,41,63,000, Demand no 32 (Jails)- Rs 44,83,29,000, Demand no 33 (Home Guards)- Rs 57,56,19,000, Demand no 34 (Rehabilitation) - Rs 13,85,20,000, Demand no 36 (Minor Irrigation) - Rs 305,72,84,000 and Demand no 48 (Relief and Disaster Management) - Rs 452,13,40,000 .
