Tamenglong, February 08 2020:
The Kuki Inpi Jiri-Tamenglong has condemned the alleged crime committed by a team of Jiribam commandos upon one Henkhogin Singson, S/o Lalngahlien Singson chief of Ngahmunphai, Tousem Sub-Division, Tamenglong District on February 6 at around 7 pm.
A press release issued by Kuki Inpi alleged that Henkhogin Singson visited Phaitol village on that day and on his way back to his village, the commandos manhandled and beat him at Phaitol cemetery for no reason at all.
After beating Henkhogin Singson to a critical condition, the commandos left him at Phaitol cemetery, it claimed alleging that Henkhogin was taken to Jiribam Hospital and from there he was referred to Silchar Medical College Hospital, Silchar, because of his critical condition.
The Kuki Inpi Jiri-Tamenglong calls upon the 52-Tamei Assembly Constituency MLA, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Tamenglong to clarify why a law enforcing agency of another district could commit such a horrendous crime upon a civilian in Tamenglong district.
Claiming that the Jiribam commandos had engaged in unethical conducts such as checking of houses without a warrant and threatening the civil population of Kuki villages in Tamenglong district many times, it appealed the State Government to terminate the commandos involved immediately.
If no action is taken up against perpetrators of the crime on or before February 12, the Kuki Inpi Jiri-Tamenglong and its constituent members will call a bandh along Highway 37 till the issue is addressed, the statement cautioned.
The Phaitol Youth Club (PYC) also condemned the alleged assault of Henkhogin Singson by some police personnel of Jiribam Police Station at Phaitol cemetery on February 6 .
A press release issued by PYC claimed that the 'victim' was severely beaten by the police personnel that he lost sense and the police left the victim without giving any information to the nearby people.
Claiming that the act of the police showed that they want to disturb the peace and co-operation between Phaitol and Ngahmunphai, the statement questioned why the police didn't take Henkhogin Singson to their custody if the assaulted person is a criminal.
The organisation then urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and take necessary action against the involved personnel.
