Ex-Minister passes away

Former Minister and one of the first two Ministers from Churachandpur district, Paoneikhai Suantak passed away at a ripe age today at his residence at Bazar Veng, Tuibuong, Churachandpur district headquarters.
Paoneikhai was 93.He is survived by his wife, two sons and grand children.
Born in October 1921 at Chongkhozo village in Ccpur, Paoneikhai obtained Diploma in Pharmacology from Diphu Hospital, Assam in 1951 before he was elected as mem- ber of Manipur Territorial Council in 1962 .
Known for his 'incorruptible nature,' he was a member of Tribal Welfare Advisory Board, Govt of Manipur from 1962-64 and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Tribal Welfare and in-charge of Labour and Employment from 1963-67 .
He was instrumental in set-ting up various educational institutions in Ccpur district besides playing a pivotal role together with former CM M Koireng Singh in obtaining the present Manipur Bhavan located at Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi.
He was also the founder vice-chairman of Ma-nipur State level Nisha Bandh Committee 1963-68 .
among the first active Congressmen from Ccpur district, Paoneikhai also serv-ed as the general secretary and president of Vaiphei National Organisation during 1958-1963 .
He was bed ridden with senile dementia since mid 2011.He passed away today around 2pm.The funeral service will be held at 10.30am tomorrow at Ccpur District Headquarters, Tui-buong, the family informed.
