Imphal, January 08 2014: A newly published book titled "Annexation of Manipur 1949" edited by Aheibam Koireng Singh and Shukhdeba Sharma Hanjabam was released today at Academic Staff College, Manipur University.

The book was released at a valedictory function of Short Term Course in Oral Traditions of Ethnic Communities of the Northeast held at the college since January 2 .

The function was graced Prof MC Arun, Director, Academic Staff College, Manipur University as president and Prof E Bijoykumar, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University as chief guest.

A review of the book was presented by P.Birchandra Singh, Asst.

Professor, Manipur College, Imphal.

Annexation of Manipur 1949 released

The book deals with Manipur becoming a part of India with the signing of Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949 which eventually came into effect on the October 15, 1949.It addresses issues which relate with the political status of Manipur before it became an integral part of India on 15 October 1949; the legality of Manipur's merger to India as per the existing norms and standards of international law; and any likelihood of Manipur regaining its pre merger political status.

The contributors are Dr Naorem Sanajaoba, Dr K Manikchand, Dr M Horam, Senjam Mangi Singh, Gangumei Kamei, Laishram Jugeshwor Singh, Dr N Joykumar Singh, Lal Dena, Rajkumar Maipaksana, H Bhuban Singh, A Nilamani, Dr Karam Manimohan Singh, Dr Kh Ibochou Singh, Dr Y.Mohendra Singh, Holkho-mang Haokip and Khaidem Mani Singh.
